Buckled alloy wheel repair at our Congleton workshop costs £96 per wheel and can often be done while you wait. Just walk in any time from 10am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, no booking needed. We check the wheel with the tyre off, measure how far it runs out of true, straighten it under control and rebalance it. If a wheel is too badly bent to straighten safely, we tell you.

Most buckles are on the inside edge of the rim after a pothole, so they're hard to see from outside the car. You usually feel them first, as a vibration at a certain speed or a tyre that slowly loses air.

We straighten buckled and bent alloy wheels in-house, so there's no waiting for wheels to be sent away. Can't get to us? Since 26 October we also offer mobile buckle repair at your home, work or the roadside.

Can a buckled alloy wheel be repaired?

Yes, most buckled alloy wheels can be straightened safely. A typical pothole buckle, where the rim edge is bent but the wheel isn't cracked or folded, is exactly the job straightening is for. We inspect every wheel first and only straighten it if it's safe to do so.

Signs your alloy wheel is buckled

• Steering wheel shake, wobble or vibration, often at motorway speeds
• Vibration through the seat (often a rear wheel)
• A tyre that slowly loses air because the bent rim no longer seals against the tyre
• Uneven or patchy tyre wear
• A wheel that won't balance properly at a tyre fitter

When a buckled wheel can't be repaired

• the wheel is severely flat-spotted or folded
• the impact has also cracked a spoke or the hub area
• the wheel has been straightened before in the same place and is too weak to straighten again

If a buckle has caused a crack in the barrel, we can often TIG weld the crack as well. If it isn't safe, we'll say so and advise replacement.

Buckle repair is £96 per wheel, including tyre off and on and balancing. Straightening is a separate job from cosmetic work, so you only pay for refinishing if you want it. If the wheel is also kerbed or corroded, our powder coating is done in-house too. Diamond cut wheels can be straightened too, then re-cut on our own CNC lathe if needed. Buckle repairs are not covered by our warranty. A straightened wheel can be bent again by the next pothole, which is outside our control.

Do I need to book a buckle repair?

No. Buckle repairs at our workshop are walk-in: come any time from 10am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. Mobile repairs are arranged in advance.

Is it safe to drive on a buckled wheel?

It isn't safe to keep driving on one. A buckle can let air escape, wears your tyre unevenly and puts extra strain on suspension parts. If the steering shakes badly or the tyre keeps going down, stop driving on it and get it checked.

Is a buckled alloy an MOT failure?

A badly distorted wheel is a major defect in the DVSA MOT inspection manual, so yes, a badly buckled wheel will fail.

How long does a buckle repair take?

Many buckle repairs are done while you wait. It depends on the damage and whether you also want the wheel refinished.

Can you fix a buckled wheel without refurbishing it?

Yes. Straightening is a separate job. Refinishing is optional.
